Topographic Surveys and Level Maps for Sites and Land
A topographic survey turns a site into a map of the ground shape, its levels and everything visible on it, such as roads, buildings and utilities. Designers rely on it for building layout, drainage and cut-and-fill before work starts.
When do you need it?
- Before architectural and structural design
- Before designing roads, water and drainage networks
- For land reclamation, farm layout and irrigation
- When subdividing large plots or assessing a site
What does the work include?
- Control points tied to the agreed coordinate reference
- Spot levels at a spacing suited to the terrain and purpose
- Existing features: boundaries, walls, buildings, roads, poles and visible utilities
- Field checks of the points before the map is issued
What do you receive?
- Topographic map in DWG and PDF
- Contour lines at an agreed interval
- Table of points, coordinates and levels
- Digital surface model when quantities are needed
What to send for a quote
- The location on Google Maps
- Approximate area and the purpose of the survey
- Any sketch or contract showing the boundaries
- The required coordinate system, if any
How the work runs
- We agree the site limits, the purpose of the map, the coordinate reference and the level datum.
- We set control points and tie them to the agreed reference.
- We observe points and features on site at a density suited to the terrain.
- We draw and check the map, then deliver the files in the required format.
FAQ
How does a topographic survey differ from a boundary survey?
A boundary survey focuses on plot corners and area. A topographic survey adds ground shape, levels and features, which designers need for drainage and earthworks.
What contour interval do I need?
It depends on the slope and the purpose of the map. Flat ground and precise projects need a smaller interval, which we agree with the designer before starting.
Can I use Google imagery instead of a survey?
Imagery helps with an early overview only. It does not give levels or boundaries accurate enough for design or construction.
