Solar Energy

Installation and cost for solar systems. El-Eman Office provides solar project surveying and installation.

Roof assessment and load calculations

Before installing solar energy for buildings, inspect the roof carefully. Panels and frames add permanent weight, and wind loads can lift panels like sails. Make sure the concrete, waterproofing and fixing points are sound, and estimate the added weight on structural elements. On newer roofs the design can include dedicated mounting bases.

  • Avoid penetrating the waterproofing without treating the fixing points properly.
  • Leave walkways for maintenance, cleaning and safe access.
  • Keep away from roof edges and areas with high wind loads according to the engineer's design.

Shading, orientation and actual output

Panels perform best when facing the sun at a suitable angle without shade. A water tank, a wall or a neighbouring building can noticeably reduce output, even if it shades only part of a panel. Shadows are therefore studied through the day and seasons before placing the panels, and a survey of the roof shape and obstruction heights helps.

  1. Draw the roof with its dimensions and the elements on it.
  2. Identify shaded zones and their impact.
  3. Choose the layout that balances panel count with ease of maintenance.
  4. Calculate spacing between rows of tilted panels so they do not shade each other.

Grid connection and electrical safety

Grid connection requires the electricity company's approval and compliance with its technical requirements. Earthing, lightning protection and protective breakers must be installed according to sound electrical practice. Keeping performance up needs periodic cleaning, checking connections and reading inverter data.

  • Choose products from reliable suppliers with clear technical documents.
  • Ask the quotation to state the number of panels, the inverter, cables and mounting structure.
  • Ask about maintenance service and spare parts after installation.

System maintenance and reading performance

Solar systems need periodic checks to keep their output. Read inverter performance from its screen or app and compare output with what is expected in the same season. An unexplained drop may point to dirt, a new shadow or a faulty connection. Also inspect connections, fixings and exposed cables after stormy weather.

  • Clean panels in the early morning or evening.
  • Do not go on the roof in windy conditions or without safety equipment.
  • Keep warranties, invoices and device data in one file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I estimate the right system size?

Start from your actual electricity use over a full period of bills, then consider the available roof area and budget. The engineer decides the suitable capacity after studying these.

Do panels need cleaning?

Yes. Dust reduces output, especially in desert areas. Clean with water and soft tools, at times when the panels are not hot.

What is the difference between grid-connected and off-grid?

Grid-connected systems use the grid as a backup and need its approval. Off-grid systems rely on batteries and suit remote places, but need more careful design of storage capacity.
